An 18-year-old Valparaiso man was hit by a train on Saturday on the Canadian
National line, Valparaiso Police said.
According to police, at 11:26 a.m. Nicholas Domer was walking westbound on
the tracks, in the area of Yellowstone Road, wearing headphones. Police said
that the train’s conductor spotted Domer and in an attempt “To warn the
subject” sounded the train’s horn “on numerous occasions.”
“When it became apparent the male subject was not going to get out of the
way, the train conductor initiated an emergency stop on the train,” police
said.
Domer was struck anyway, treated at the scene by Valparaiso Fire/EMS, then
transported to Porter hospital. He was later airlifted to a Chicago area
hospital.
“Police learned through their investigation” that Domer was wearing
headphones at the time of the accident.
No further information was immediately available this morning.
