NICTD Transit Police are seeking the man who slashed another man’s throat on Monday in the restroom of the East Chicago South Shore station.

According to police, at 5:42 p.m. a visitor parked his car in the lot and was waiting for his wife to exit a train when he went into the restroom. There he was followed by a male subject who slashed the visitor’s throat from behind, police said. The victim threw down his keys, wallet, and cell phone and attempted to flee but was then stabbed again during an ensuing struggle, police said.

“The victim was able to escape from the bathroom and run from the station” but the suspect followed and then, witnesses advised, stole the victim’s vehicle, a silver 2005 Honda Accord with Illinois license plate H713340, police said.

The suspect was last seen northbound on Indianapolis Blvd.

The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries at St. Catherine Hospital.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing dark clothing and carrying a green cloth shopping style bag with unspecified white letters on it.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the stolen vehicle is asked to call the NICTD Transit Police at (219) 398-6000.
