WHEATFIELD, Ind. (AP) — The body of a man has been found in a northwestern
Indiana river after a search that began when a neighbor found his running
lawnmower parked along the fast-moving river.
A state conservation officer says 62-year-old Alan Miller was found Thursday
morning in the Kankakee River about 140 yards downstream from where his
mower was left in the rural area near the Jasper County town of Wheatfield.
Officer Shawn Brown says searchers worked for several hours until nightfall
Wednesday trying to find Miller in the river about 30 miles southeast of
Gary. An autopsy was planned to determine how Miller died.
