A Chicago motorist
died on Thursday when his vehicle was hit by a semi on the Indiana Toll Road
in St. Joseph County, the Indiana State Police said.
The victim was
identified as Rutherford Orr, 82.
According to
police, at 11 p.m. the ISP dispatch received a report of a passenger vehicle
stopped on the right shoulder and partially in the roadway of the eastbound
Toll Road at the 69 mile marker, three miles wet of the U.S. Highway 20/31
exit. Troopers were en route to that location when dispatch received a
second call, advising that the car had been struck by a semi.
Orr, the driver of
the passenger vehicle, a 2000 Ford Taurus, was transported to Memorial
Hospital in South Bend, where he later died of his injuries, police said.
The driver of the
semi, Nikola Raducic, 21, of Mukilteo, Wash., was uninjured, police said.
