Local defrauded by out-of-country tech

Back To Front Page

A Chesterton resident was apparently victimized--to the tune of thousands of dollars--by an out-of-country technician who stole credit card information from his computer.

According to police, the resident reported that, after purchasing virus software on line to “de-bug” his computer, he “allowed an unknown person(s) in India to have access to his computer and all of his personal information.”

Between July 3 and July 5, that person used his credit card number to make $8,979.38 in Moneygram payments “to somewhere in India.”

The CPD had no further information on the incident.
