A Liberty Township man has pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of
production of child pornography and distribution of child pornography, the
U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Indiana said.
Brian Reider, 51, with a listed address on 76 U.S. Highway 6, pleaded guilty
last week, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Under the plea agreement, Reider is facing a minimum term of 20 years and a
maximum term of 50 years, but the U.S. Attorney’s Office will recommend a
sentence in the lower range in recognition of Reider’s “acceptance of
responsibility.”
The agreement also recommends a 20-year term of supervised release after
Reider has completed his prison sentence; sex-offender evaluation and
treatment; and as a mandatory term of his supervised released, sex-offender
registration.
In exchange for his plea, a third count, possession of child pornography,
would be dismissed, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office has agreed to file no
additional charges against Reider related to the criminal investigation of
this case.
The judge is under no obligation to follow the agreement’s recommendations.
According to the indictment, Reider knowingly employed, used, persuaded,
induced, enticed, or coerced a 12-year-old boy to engage in sexually
explicit conduct so that he could produce visual depictions of that conduct.
The investigation began in September 2010 and following the execution of a
federal search warrant at Reider’s residence hundreds of videos and images
depicting children in sexual explicit conduct were recovered, the U.S.
Attorney’s Office said.
The investigation was conducted by the Indiana Internet Crimes Against
Children Task Force, including the FBI, the Kokomo Police Department, and
the Highland Police Department.
