Gerid Forste was struck by three rounds from an AR-15 type rifle.
But only one of those rounds was fatal, Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris
told the Chesterton Tribune today.
An autopsy on Forste, a 31-year-old Kouts resident, was conducted on
Thursday, following his death in a shooting early Wednesday morning in the
apartment of Abraham Bratcher, 34, at 3105 Black Partridge Lane in
Forste was struck once in the chest area and sustained “massive internal
injuries,” Harris said. The other two rounds struck Forste’s legs.
Bratcher himself called 911, the VPD has said, and later told investigators
that, in the course of an altercation, he shot Forste, whom Bratcher
referred to as a friend.
The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office was waiting for the results of the autopsy
to proceed in this case. As of deadline today there was no word on whether
Bratcher would be charged or with what he would be charged.
