ISP: Wrong way driver in head-on crash on I-80/94

A wrong-way driver on I-80/94 collided with another vehicle on Tuesday, in an accident in Lake County which sent three people to hospital, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 10:42 p.m. Melissa Herzog, 37, of Hammond, was eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-80/94 when, near Broadway, she struck a second vehicle head on.

The driver of the second vehicle was Bryan J. Lopez, 21, of Montgomery, Ill., who advised police that he was unable to avoid Herzog’s 2005 Dodge Caravan. Lopez and his passenger, Jozlyn Rocha, 21, of Aurora, Ill., were both transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Herzog was also transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus for observation, police said.

Possible charges against Herzog were under review by the Lake County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, police said.

The left three lanes of I-80/94 were closed until approximately 1:03 a.m. today.
