ISP: Two semi accident on I65 in Jasper County

Back To Front Page

A two-semi crash on Thursday closed one lane of I-65 in Jasper County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 3:32 p.m. trucker Charles Johnson, 33, of Missouri, was northbound on I-65, four miles north of the Fair Oaks exit, when he drifted off the roadway to the right.

Johnson’s rig sideswiped a second semi disabled on the shoulder and waiting for service, driven by Thoronton Brown, 46, of Florida, police said. The passenger’s side of Johnson’s trailer--loaded with general freight en route to Wal-Mart--was ripped off, while the rest of his trailer actually entered Brown’s trailer, loaded with contacted lenses, police said.

Brown’s rig was marked by emergency triangles at the time of the crash, police added.

Part of Johnson’s load was lost in the right lane of I-65, police said. Brown’s load remained intact.

Brown was transported to Jasper County Hospital for treatment of back pain, while Johnson was not injured, police said.

The right lane of I-65 was closed for an extended period.
