Two persons were injured Tuesday in a four-vehicle accident on I-80/94 in Lake County during rush-hour, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 5:55 p.m. Rumaldo Dela Cerda, 39, of Cicero, Ill., was westbound on I-80/94 when, approximately one mile east of the Broadway exit in Gary, her 1998 Ford Expedition lost the right rear tire, which rolled backward into a 2015 Lexus driven by Soraya Torabi, 62, of Munster, who was traveling in the left middle lane, police said.

The tire continued rolling backward, striking a semi-tractor trailer rig, also in the left middle lane, operated by Kestutis Packevicius, 52, of Woodridge, Ill., causing the semi to jackknife, police said. A second semi, operated by Shakil Ahmed, 50, of Ontario, Canada, then hit Packeviciusí rig, police said.

The three left lanes were closed for clean-up of the crash, removal of the vehicles and injured, and investigation of the crash, police said.
