Two persons were injured Sunday in a one-vehicle accident on I-94 in LaPorte
County, the Indiana State Police said.
According to police, at 2 p.m. Gayle L. Jenkins, 57, of Merrillville, was
westbound on I-94, at the 39 mile marker west of the LaPorte exit, when a
black SUV merged abruptly into her lane, causing her to swerve to the left.
Jenkins lost control of her 2004 Buick Rendezvous, hit the concrete median
barrier wall, ricocheted, crossed all lanes of westbound traffic, and came
to rest on the outer shoulder, police said.
The black SUV continued westbound without stopping, police said.
Jenkins sustained non-life threatening injuries to her back, while her
passenger, Linda Adamczewski, 61, of Gary, sustained non-life threatening
injuries to her neck, shoulder, and leg, police said. They were both
transported to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City.
“Because they were wearing their seatbelts and airbags were deployed, this
greatly reduced the severity of their injuries,” ISP Master Trooper Dave
The right lane of westbound I-94 was closed for around an hour.
