A trucker lost one of his trailers on I-80/94 in Lake County on Tuesday and didn’t realize it for seven miles, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 4:35 a.m. Jeffrey R. Olgetree, of Haughton, La., was eastbound on I-80/94 pulling double trailers when, half a mile west of Grant Street, an unknown tractor-trailer sideswiped his driver’s side mirror. Ogletree veered right and onto the outer shoulder, then over-corrected back into the right lane, causing his rear trailer to fishtail, break free of the front trailer, and roll onto its left side, coming to rest in the middle left and middle right lanes.

Ogletree, however, was unaware that his trailer had been lost and continued eastbound until pulling over prior to entering the Indiana Toll Road, police said. The unknown rig which caused the crash was not subsequently located.

Ogletree’s lost trailer--carrying Amazon packages--did not lose its load, police said, but the middle lanes were closed for approximately two hours to upright and tow it.

Ogletree was driving for US Freightways Logistics Inc. of Elk Grove, Ill.
