A trucker was cited on Tuesday after he rolled his rig on an I-80/94 off ramp in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 11:50 a.m. Gerald L. Bester, 46, of Racine, Wis., was exiting eastbound I-80/94 for northbound Cline Ave. when he took the ramp too fast, causing his load to shift and his rig to roll onto its side.

Most of his 73,000-pound load of bundled scrap metal spilled onto the rampís shoulder and over the concrete barrier wall onto Cline Ave., where a northbound motorist, Ruben Deleon, 47, struck one of the scrap bundles, police said.

Neither Bester nor Deleon was injured, police said, but Bester was issued a citation for speed too fast to avoid collision and unsecure load.

Bester was driving for Scott Hansen Trucking of New Berlin, Wis.

Both lanes of northbound Cline Ave. were closed for approximately 45 minutes.
