The Indiana State Police is seeking the publicís help in identifying the shooter or shooters who fired at a passenger vehicle on an I-65 off-ramp early this morning.

According to police, at 3:33 a.m. a 2015 Nissan Altima occupied by four persons was northbound on I-65--after leaving a bar in Merrillville--when they heard what sounded like gunfire. The driver exited I-65 and was on the ramp for westbound I-80/94 when the Nissanís occupants heard more gunfire, police said.

A 46-year-old Gary resident in the backseat sustained non-life threatening injuries and was subsequently treated at Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary and released, police said. The other three occupants--a 35-year-old Gary resident, a 29-year-old Gary resident, and a 45-year-old Merrillville resident--were not injured.

The Nissan itself was struck at least three times in the rear, police said, and investigators recovered multiple bullet casings on I-65 and from the off-ramp. The Nissanís four occupants did observe a suspect vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact ISP Det. Gary Runde at (219) 696-6242.
