Motorists were being encouraged this morning to use southbound U.S. Highway 41 alternative to I-65, following a semi rollover in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 8:43 a.m. Oleh Halatyma, 51, of Arlington Heights, Ill., was southbound on I-65, in a construction zone three miles south of Ind. 10, when he struck the right guardrail, causing a tire failure.

Halatyma then lost control and drove into a ditch, where his rig overturned, police said.

Halatyma escaped injury but motorists southbound on I-65 were being diverted onto Ind. 10 for the removal of the semi.

Police expected it to take two to three hours for the lanes to re-open.
