A semi-tractor trailer crash early this morning on I-65 in Lake County forced the closure of all southbound lanes, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 1:40 a.m. Angel A. Alvarez, 44, of Miami, Fla., was southbound on I-65 when, one mile north of the Lowell exit, he left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck the concrete barrier wall.

Alvarez was transported to Franciscan Health Crown Point with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

All southbound lanes were closed for over an hour and a hazmat cleanup team sent to the scene to deal with a diesel fuel leak on the roadway and shoulder, police said. The roadway was re-opened completely at 9:20 a.m. today.

Alvarez was hauling a rail container for J&G Freight of Bolingbrook, Ill.
