A motorist was killed on Wednesday after rear-ending a disabled semi on I-94 in LaPorte County, the Indiana State Police is reporting.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of family.

According to police, at 1:52 p.m.--well before the snow began to fall--the motorist was westbound on I-94 when, three miles east of the Michigan City exit, the motorist’s Chevrolet Blazer slammed into the rear of the semi, whose operator had pulled it off the roadway onto the right shoulder.

“At this point, it is unknown what caused the Blazer to leave the roadway, but the semi was disabled and parked well off the roadway at the time of the crash,” police said.
