The northbound lanes of I-65 were closed for around three hours on Wednesday after a dump truck operator inadvertently activated the dump control just before passing under a bridge, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 10:17 p.m. David Chavez, 31, of Chicago, was northbound on I-65 when near the 249 mile marker, he hit the dump control, tilting the trailer into an upright position. The trailer then struck the 113th Ave. overpass when Chavez drove underneath it, police said.

The trailer--empty at the time--came to rest upright in the middle of the roadway.

Chavez succeeded in stopping the tractor shortly after impact and escaped injury, police said.

The roadway was closed for three hours for cleanup and bridge inspection by INDOT.
