A Hammond resident was pronounced dead at the scene of a three-vehicle crash Tuesday night on westbound I-80/94, Indiana State Police said.

According to ISP, at approximately 11:30 p.m., troopers were dispatched to a three-vehicle crash at the 1.0 mile marker, near the exit ramp to Calumet Avenue. Preliminary investigation by Trooper John Landowski revealed that Eimy Ocampo-Ayala, 21, of Hammond, was westbound approaching the exit ramp for Calumet Avenue in a black 2001 Chevrolet Malibu when she struck the impact attenuator, then struck a 2005 Freightliner semi that was traveling in the right lane, according to ISP. ISP reports the 2005 Freightliner then struck a second semi, a 2008 Volvo, before all vehicles came to rest against a median wall.

Ocampo-Ayala was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lake County Coroner, and her family has been notified, according to ISP.

The driver of the 2005 Freightliner was identified as David Urzedowski, 42, of Ill., and the driver of the 2008 Volvo was identified as Robert A. Satterfield, 44, of Chicago, Ill., ISP said.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours for crash investigation and scene cleanup. Assisting at the scene was the Hammond Fire Department, Lake County Coroner, WAFFCO Towing, and Double T Towing, ISP said.

ISP believes alcohol was a factor in this crash, as well as limited visibility due to heavy rain.
