A Logansport, Ind., man was taken into custody early this morning after calling 911 and reporting himself as an intoxicated motorist, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 12:20 a.m. Matthew Devore, 24, was northbound on I-65 at the 226 mile marker in Jasper County when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, and entered the grassy median. Devore succeeded in regaining the road surface but discovered that one of his tires was flat, and at that point called 911 “to report himself as a drunk driver,” police said.

Devore subsequently registered a blood alcohol content of .09 percent, police said. Motorists in Indiana are considered legally intoxicated when they score a B.A.C. of .08 percent or higher.

Devore advised the investigating officer that he “was sick of Indiana so he decided to go for a drive,” police said. Devore was found to have bloody knuckles, police added, which Devore said he sustained after punching a wall while playing darts.

Devore was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
