An Illinois motorcyclist died on Monday when he lost control of his bike following a tire blowout on I-65, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 11:13 p.m. Bahnan Dawood, 50 of Des Plaines, was northbound on I-65 when, approximately three miles north of the Fair Oaks exit, the back tire on his 2012 Honda blew out, causing him to lose control of his bike.

The motorcycle came to rest on the outside shoulder but Dawood himself landed in the lanes of traffic, where he was first hit by a semi, then run over multiple times by other vehicles. “Dawood had been wearing a helmet but sustained injuries he could not survive” and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

All northbound traffic was diverted off I-65 at exit 220 for approximately four hours, police said.
