A motorcyclist was injured Sunday after losing control of his motorcycle on I-80/94 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 7:05 p.m. Cody Cunningham, 24, of Thornton, Ill., was reported traveling at a high rate of speed, "going in and out of traffic," when near Broadway he attempted to slip between two vehicles. Police said that Cunningham sideswiped one of them--a 2018 Land Rover being driven by Khulekani Mangozhe, 32, of Indianapolis--causing Cunningham to go airborne over the Land Rover hood.

Cunningham came to rest in the roadway, while his 2011 Suzuki rear-ended a third vehicle, a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo being driven by Tinley Sowash, 39, of Lake Station, police said.

Cunningham--who was issued a citation for unsafe lane movement--was transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary, then to a Chicago hospital for treatment of a serious leg injury, police said.

No one else was injured in the accident.
