A motorcyclist and
his passenger were injured on Wednesday after he lost control of his bike on
I-80/94 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.
police, at 1:30 p.m. Cory R. Espinoza, 23, of Crown point was traveling “in
and out of traffic” in the eastbound lanes of I-80/94--near the Grant Street
on-ramp--when he “changed lanes from the left lane, crossed all lanes, and
hit two construction barrels in the gore area,” which separates the travel
lanes from the Grant Street acceleration lane.
Espinoza and his
passenger, Grace A. Ray, 24, of Lowell, were ejected and came to rest in the
acceleration lane, police said. Espinoza’s 2000 Suzuki came to rest on its
side on the outer shoulder.
Espinoza, who was
not wearing a helmet, and Ray, who was, were transported to Methodist
Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary with non-life threatening injuries, police
Espinoza was issued
a citation for unsafe lane movement, driving while suspended, and operating
without a valid motorcycle endorsement, police said.
