A motorcyclist and his passenger were injured on Wednesday after he lost control of his bike on I-80/94 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 1:30 p.m. Cory R. Espinoza, 23, of Crown point was traveling “in and out of traffic” in the eastbound lanes of I-80/94--near the Grant Street on-ramp--when he “changed lanes from the left lane, crossed all lanes, and hit two construction barrels in the gore area,” which separates the travel lanes from the Grant Street acceleration lane.

Espinoza and his passenger, Grace A. Ray, 24, of Lowell, were ejected and came to rest in the acceleration lane, police said. Espinoza’s 2000 Suzuki came to rest on its side on the outer shoulder.

Espinoza, who was not wearing a helmet, and Ray, who was, were transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Espinoza was issued a citation for unsafe lane movement, driving while suspended, and operating without a valid motorcycle endorsement, police said.
