ISP: Merrillville motorist injured in I-80/94 accident

A Merrillville man was injured early this morning after losing control of his vehicle on I-80/94 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 1:10 a.m. Michael L. Williams Jr., 28, was eastbound on I-80/94, just west of the Burr Street exit, when he hit black ice and lost control, leaving the roadway to the right and hitting hard-packed snow in the traffic gore, the striped area separating the Burr Street exit ramp from the main travel lanes.

Williamsí 1993 Pontiac Grand Am came to rest on its roof, police said.

Williams was transported to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The two right lanes were closed for approximately 35 minutes.
