ISP: Jackknifed semi closes NB I-65 in Jasper County

Back To Front Page

A jack-knifed semi closed the northbound lanes of I-65 for two hours this morning in Jasper County, the Indiana State Police is reporting.

According to police, at 5:35 a.m. trucker Amandi N. Chioke, 45, of Round Lake, Ill., was northbound on I-65 when, two miles north of the Remington/Rensselaer exit, he lost control on the icy road surface. Police said that Chioke’s box trailer-rig left the roadway, and crashed into a center median barrier cable, causing extensive damage to his Volvo tractor and to approximately 50 yards of median cable.

The tractor then traveled back onto northbound I-65 and into a ditch on the east side of the road, with his trailer blocking both lanes.

Chioke--who was wearing his seatbelt--was transported to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer with non-life threatening injuries.

Chioke was hauling for Sala Motor Freight Line of Houma, Iowa, and his trailer was empty at the time of the crash.

All northbound lanes were reopened at approximately 7:40 a.m.
