Two persons were
injured Tuesday in a hit-and-run accident on I-65 in Jasper County, the
Indiana State Police said.
According to
police, at 7 a.m. James Hollman, 43, of Dayton, Ohio, was northbound on
I-65, two miles north of the Fair Oaks exit, when he rear-ended a pickup
truck--sending it and its driver into a wooded area on the east side of the
roadway--then continued northbound, until heavy front-end damage forced him
to stop.
Hollman
subsequently told the trooper who made contact with him that he’d
encountered slower traffic and, in order to avoid a collision, had veered
off the road, where he’d struck a guardrail or sign instead. Hollman also
said that he’d called AAA for a tow.
The trooper who
responded to the scene of the rear-ended pickup truck, however, found white
paint transfer on the truck, police said. In addition, he recovered debris
from Hollman’s Nissan and was able to follow a trail of antifreeze leading
from the scene, police said.
On further
investigation, approximately one and a half pounds of marijuana was found in
Johnson’s Nissan as well as two loaded firearms, police said.
After being
medically cleared at Jasper County Hospital, Johnson was booked into the
Jasper County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury
crash, dealing marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and illegal
possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, police said.
