A Hammond man died on Saturday in a three-vehicle accident on I-80/94 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

The victim was identified as Anthony Easter Sr., 42.

According to police, at 4:40 a.m. Easter was eastbound on I-80/94 when, approximately one mile west of Grant Street, he left the roadway and struck two vehicles parked on the outer shoulder: a mechanicís pickup truck and a disabled straight truck.

Police said that emergency triangles had been placed to the rear of both trucks, but that Easter drove over them, hit the pickup in the driverís door, then went under the rear of the straight truck.

Easter was pronounced dead at the scene of massive blunt force trauma, police said. His passenger, Jennifer Hugger, 29, of Hobart, had to be extricated from Easterís 2005 Chevrolet Impala and was airlifted from the scene to Christ Medical in Oak Lawn, Ill., police said.

All eastbound and westbound lanes of I-80/94 were closed for a short time for the landing and take-off of the air ambulance. The right and center lanes of eastbound I-80/94 were closed until 9 a.m.
