A Gary resident was arrested early this morning on a pair of outstanding warrant charges following a two-vehicle accident on I-80/94 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 12 a.m. Thurman E. Dockery Jr., 40, was eastbound on I-80/94 and “traveling at a high speed” when, near the 8.8 mile marker, he rear-ended a second vehicle which had just merged into his lane.

Police said that Dockery’s 2016 Chevrolet Cruz traveled across all lanes of traffic and crashed into the inside barrier wall.

Dockery was breathing but unresponsive and transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary, where he was treated and subsequently released. Police said that the occupants of the vehicle rear-ended by Dockery refused medical treatment.

ISP investigators later learned that Dockery was wanted on two outstanding warrants, police said: one issued through Indiana charging him with parole violation related to a burglary charge, the other through Cook County, Ill., related to “dangerous drugs charges.”

Police also said that the vehicle being driven by Dockery had been reported stolen out of Chicago and that inside the vehicle were found “drug paraphernalia and suspected controlled substances.”

On being discharged from hospital, Dockery was transported into the Lake County Jail on the two warrant charges and further charges against him are pending, police said.
