A Delphi, Ind., motorist fell asleep at the wheel on Thursday while driving on I-65 in Lake County, in an accident which set his vehicle on fire, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 12:26 p.m. Lukus Hunt, 20, was northbound on I-65, at the 238 mile marker two miles south of the Lowell exit, when he fell asleep. Huntís Oldsmobile Bravada left the roadway to the left, hit the guardrail, then hit a concrete bridge abutment, flipping the Bravada on its side.

The Bravada then caught fire.

Huntís passenger, Thomas Storey, 22 of West Lafayette, was able to exit the vehicle, while Hunt was removed by a Good Samaritan who stopped at the scene.

Hunt and Storey were taken to Saint Anthonyís Hospital in Crown Point. Hunt sustained broken bones and minor burns, while Storey complained of body pain, police said.

All northbound lanes were closed for less than an hour.
