A Hobart motorist was injured Tuesday after colliding with a semi-tractor
trailer on I-80 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.
According to police, at 1:35 p.m. William M. Hutchins, 56, was attempting to
merge onto eastbound I-80 from the I-65/Central Ave. on-ramp when he failed
to merge before the lane ended. Police said that Hutchins’ 2006 Toyota
sideswiped the semi, then went beneath the rig’s trailer.
Hutchins was transported to Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Hobart with
non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The driver of the semi, Guadalupe Gonzalez, 41, of Chicago, was not injured.
Gonzalez was carrying 44,005 pounds of assorts soft drinks and en route to
South Bend from Northlake, Ill. There was no load loss.
