A Chicago resident was arrested early this morning on a charge of reckless driving after the Indiana State Police said that a trooper clocked him at better than 150 miles per hour on the Indiana Toll Road.

According to police, at 1:31 a.m. Christopher Garza, 30, was eastbound on the Toll Road, three miles east of the Cline Ave. exit, when a trooper clocked Garza’s 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat at 158 miles per hour.

“The Challenger rapidly decreased its speed as it passed (the trooper’s) police car, police said.

On being stopped, “Garza stated that he had recently purchased the Challenger and wanted to show his friends (two passengers in the Dodge) what his 707 horsepower engine could do,” police said. Garza further stated that “he knew was doing 160 mph and thought the Indiana Toll Road would be the safest place to do this since it was empty.”

Garza was transported to the Lake County Jail and his passengers released at a nearby hotel, police said.
