A Chesterton woman sustained a head injury on Tuesday in a hit-and-run accident on I-80/94 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 6:22 a.m. the 39-year-old woman was westbound in the left lane when, near the Ripley Street exit, her vehicle was sideswiped by a white Kia whose driver was attempting to merge into the left lane from the middle lane. The woman lost control of her vehicle, left the roadway, struck the concrete barrier wall, then rolled approximately four times, police said.

The woman sustained head trauma and was transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary, police said, while the womanís passenger, a 28-year-old Chesterton man, escaped injury.

The white Kia—which should have damage to its passengerís side rear—never stopped and continued westbound, police said. No other description of the car or its driver was available.

The left lane of I-80/94 was re-opened at 7:40 a.m.
