An Indianapolis man died in
a rollover crash on I-65 on Thursday, the Indiana State Police said.
The victim was identified
as James A. Wagner, 52.
According to police, at
1:09 p.m. Wagner was southbound in the right lane of I-65, two miles south
of the Crown Point exit in Lake County, when for unknown reasons his 1996
Ford Explorer veered left, then right, then left again, before leaving the
roadway on the inner shoulder and beginning to roll.
Wagner--who was not
wearing a seatbelt--was ejected from the Explorer and struck the median
cable barrier. He was transported to Saint Anthony Health in Crown Point and
was later pronounced dead of massive head and internal injuries, police
said.
Wagner’s wife, Billi J.
Wagner, 44, was asleep in the passenger’s seat at the time of the crash. She
also was not wearing a seatbelt and was “tossed around inside the vehicle,”
police said. She was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Saint
Anthony.
