A Hobart woman was killed on Wednesday, Nov. 23, in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 30 in Valparaiso, Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris reported.

Harris identified the victim as Jennifer M. Syjut, 23.

According to Harris, shortly after midnight Syjut was westbound in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 30 when, near the intersection of Ind. 2, she collided head on with a second vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle was Shaun Sullivan, 21, of Valparaiso.

The Coroner’s Office responded to the crash at 1:02 a.m. and Syjut was pronounced dead at the scene, Harris said.

Sullivan was transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary.

Syjut was driving a 2007 Ford Escape, Harris said; Sullivan, a 2009 Toyota Yaris.

“Toxicology is being performed to test if alcohol played a role in the accident,” Harris added.
