Hobart motorcyclist badly hurt here in crash

A Hobart man was seriously injured on Wednesday in a motorcycle crash on I-94 near Chesterton, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 11:30 p.m. Duke Dubuque, 41, was in the right lane of eastbound I-94, near Ind. 49, when for an unknown reason lost control of his 2001 Harley Davidson.

Dubuque fell off his bike and slid across the eastbound lanes of I-94 until he came to rest on the inner shoulder.

Dubuque, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered head and body injuries, police said. He was transported to Porter Regional Hospital and subsequently airlifted to Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill.

Police said that Dubuque registered a blood alcohol content of .13 percent and only had a motorcycle learnerís permit endorsement. He was cited for both, police said.

Traffic lanes were closed off and on for removal of the injured and reconstruction of the crash. All lanes were reopened at approximately 3:30 a.m.
