One of seven persons riding a golf cart on Wednesday was badly injured when
the cart fell off a ledge, the Ogden Dunes Police Department said.
The ODPD did not identify the victim—or the victim’s age—except to say that
the person was visiting the area from out of state.
According to police, at 10:40 p.m. seven persons were on board a golf cart
being operated at 11 Locust Road: the driver, two adult females, and four
children ranging in age from 14 months to 9 years. The driver was attempting
to climb a steep driveway at the address when the golf cart stalled out and
began to roll backwards, police said. It then left the paved portion of the
driveway, dropped off a low ledge, and came to rest against a parked car.
One person was airlifted with head injuries to a Chicago-area hospital,
police said. All others were treated at Porter Portage Hospital Campus.
Names were being withheld at this time, police said.
Assisting the ODPD at the scene were the Ogden Dunes Fire Department, the
Burns Harbor Police Department, and the Portage Fire Department. The Portage
Police Department has also provided its Accident Reconstruction Team to
investigate the crash.
