Gives friend PIN, account drained

Back to Front Page

Chesterton Police have taken the report of a resident who gave her debit card and PIN to a friend and then discovered that the friend had emptied her account.

According to police, the resident had authorized the friend only to pay for groceries, prescription medications, and cigarettes but on receiving her bank statement found the balance at zero. Police said that the resident does not know how much money had been in her account or how much her friend spent.

Police said that because the resident willingly gave her friend access to the account, no criminal charges are involved, and that the incident must be pursued as a civil matter.
