A 16-year-old Union Township girl was killed on Tuesday after losing control of her car on C.R. 500W in Union Township.

Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris has identified the victim as Gabriella Dres.

According to statements released by Harris and the Porter County Sheriff’s Police, at 2:43 p.m. Dres was southbound on C.R. 500--“at a high rate of speed,” a witness advised--when, in the area of C.R. 70N, she lost control of her Mercedes AMG. The car “skidded of the road” and collided with several trees in an impact which cut the car in half, Harris said.

Dres was wearing a seatbelt and her airbags deployed but she was ejected in the collision and came to rest off the roadway.

The Coroner’s Office subsequently pronounced Dres dead at the scene.

The result of a routine toxicology screen are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
