A former Merrillville Town Council member has been charged with forgery, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, Terrell Taylor, 49, was indicted on Thursday by a Lake County grand jury, following an investigation by Det. Chris Campione of Taylorís company, Taylor Development Corporation, of which Taylor is president and CEO.

The investigation began nearly a year earlier, in May 2013, police said.

Taylor turned himself in at the Lake County Jail on Friday and subsequently posted bond, police said.

Forgery is a Class C felony punishable by a term of two to eight years.
