Firearms and cash taken in Jackson burglary

Firearms and cash were stolen on Sunday in the burglary of a residence in the 400 block of Greening Road in Jackson Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.

According to police, sometime between 9 and 11 a.m. someone forced entry of an attached garage, then entered the residence and removed the following firearms: a .22 caliber Remington single-shot rifle; a 7mm Remington bolt-action rifle with scope; a .22 Marlin rifle; a semi-automatic AK-47; and a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Also stolen: a small lockbox containing $2,220 in cash and paperwork.

Drawers throughout the residence were found rifled, police said.

Police estimated total loss and damage at $4,950.
