A semi caught fire this morning near the 29 mile marker of Interstate 94,
Chesterton Fire Department said.
CFD was dispatched Wednesday at 4:57 a.m. in response to an accidental fire
that broke out inside the cabin of the semi due to break failure, CFD
Captian Brent Valpatic said. Also dispatched to the scene -- under a mutal
aid agreement -- was the Porter Fire Department.
On their arrival, firefighters found the driver safely out of his truck
while his cabin was engulfed in flames. The fire teams extinguished the
blaze using over 2,000 gallons of water.
No injuries were reported, Valpatic said. Fire teams cleared the scene at
6:02 a.m.
CFD was unable to estimate the dollar value but said the semi was ruled to
be a total loss.
