Within a couple of hours of a Portage woman’s losing her wallet on Monday at the Kmart at 750 Indian Boundary Road, someone had gone on a shopping spree with her credit card, Chesterton Police said.

According to police, at 8:30 a.m. the woman lost her wallet somewhere in the Kmart. “A short time later she received a phone call from her credit card company saying that it had been used,” police said.

And then used again.

And again.

A charge of $100 was made at each of two Speedway gas stations in town. A charge of $400 was made at the CVS. And then a charge of $530 was made at the Target in Valparaiso. Total loss: $1,130.

The victim subsequently canceled all the cards in her wallet, police said.
