E-ZPass software failure backs up Toll Road traffic

Back To Front Page

At approximately 5:20 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday, March 29, the Indiana Toll Road experienced an outage on the E-ZPass system.

The technology team immediately addressed the issue, a software failure, and worked to correct the situation. The E-ZPass file system was reset, and traffic returned to normal levels at 8:50 p.m. Eastern.

“During the outage, we opened the toll gates at our heaviest congested areas, allowing traffic to safely move off the main road,” said Rick Fedder, Chief Operating Officer of ITR Concession Company, LLC, which manages the Indiana Toll road. “We monitored the situation at each location through our closed-circuit system, and reacted accordingly.” Alleviating congestion at the toll plazas allowed access for the Indiana Toll Road technology team to make their necessary corrections, and get the system operational in a timely manner.

“We would like to thank our holiday travelers for their patience during this outage,” Rick Fedder continued. “We are very sorry for the inconvenience, and are taking steps to ensure that it is not repeated in the future.”
