Eight persons were injured Saturday in a two-vehicle accident in the area of U.S. Highway 6 and C.R. 400E in Jackson Township, the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department is reporting.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m., the LTVFD said, with Assistant Chief Wineland arriving first at the scene and reporting multiple injuries, including head injuries, hip fractures, leg injuries with numbness in the lower extremities, and minor lacerations.

The Westville Community Volunteer FD assisted at the scene, while the Washington Township Volunteer FD--per established protocol--prepared a landing zone at Jackson Elementary School for a medivac helicopter.

Four patients finally were transported to hospital, one of whom was airlifted to an unspecified trauma center.

Also responding to the scene were the Porter County Sheriff’s Police, Porter EMS, and Lutheran Air Medical Helicopter.
