The Duneland School Corporation is urging parents to view a recently produced video which will help them identify the signs of drug use and guide them in talking to their children about substance abuse and treatment.

The video, A Parent Plan for Drug Prevention, is viewable on YouTube.

“It is our goal at Duneland School Corporation to partner with parents and our community to provide a quality education and a safe place for our students to live and learn,” Duneland Schools said in a statement released after deadline on Wednesday. “We strive to have ongoing and open communication with our Duneland community. It is in this line of thinking that we would like to share some serious information with you. There are concerns regarding the local supplies of illicit heroin.”

“While heroin use is an immediate concern, any substance abuse affects quality of life,” Duneland Schools added.

“Parents are still the most powerful influence in their children’s lives. It is important to us that we remind our community that the following resources are available should you or anyone you know have concerns about dealing with any drug use or abuse issues.”
