Duneland escapes the heaviest rains

Back To Front Page

Duneland got wet over the weekend but not nearly as wet as might have been expected, given the National Weather Service’s forecasts late last week.

Not nearly as wet either as portions of Illinois.

Over four days--beginning midnight Thursday and ending midnight Sunday--a total of 1.48 inches of rain was recorded at the Chesterton wastewater treatment plant, Chief Operator Bill Williams told the Chesterton Tribune today.

That total includes 0.64 inches on Saturday and 0.67 inches on Sunday.

In LaSalle County, Ill., on the other hand--located southwest of Chicago--a total of 5.34 inches was recorded on Saturday and Sunday, with 3.27 inches recorded at O’Hare Airport.

“The rainfall brought localized flooding in numerous locations as well as sharp rises on area rivers, especially the tributaries of the Illinois River and the Illinois River itself,” the National Weather Service said.
