Chesterton Police are investigating an apparent case of
road rage in which a Chesterton resident reported that while driving on Ind.
49 Tuesday a second driver pointed a handgun at him.
According to police, at 3:04 p.m. the resident advised
that he was turning right onto southbound Ind. 49 at the CR 1100N traffic
light the same time as a black Ford 150 with a camper on its back and the
two vehicles nearly collided.
The driver of the Ford, the resident advised, attempted
to “run him off the road” and swerved off the road to the right near the
Duneland Schools’ bus barn, police said.
The resident advised he called 911 on his cell phone when
the driver of the Ford pulled up by his passenger side, pointed a “smaller
black semi-automatic handgun” and shouted, “Who the (explicative) are you
calling? Get off the phone!” police said.
The resident advised he slowed his vehicle and both
vehicles pulled off the roadway, then the Ford pulled ahead and turned onto
the Indiana Toll Road entrance, police said.
The suspect driver was described as a “heavy set male
with longer salt and pepper hair and wearing silver sunglasses,” police
said.
Police said the resident did not know if any shots had
been fired and did not find any bullet holes in his vehicle.
The resident gave police what he thought was the Ford’s
plate number but it did not register any vehicle, police said.
