A Demotte man was airlifted on Sunday after crashing his vehicle on I-65 in Jasper County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 6:30 a.m. James E. Wright, 31, was northbound on I-65 when, near the Demotte/Roselawn exit, he suffered a medical incident. Wright’s 2012 Toyota Corolla left the roadway, hit a portable construction arrow board, entered the grassy median, and came to rest facing westbound in a water-filled ditch.

The Corolla then started on fire, police said.

A Fleetwood, Pa., trucker stopped to assist Wright--who police said was “disoriented and confused”--and succeeded in removing him the car just before it became fully engulfed, police said.

Wright was subsequently airlifted to Loyola University Hospital in Illinois with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The southbound lanes of I-65 were closed for approximately an hour, police added.
