Half a double-wide
ended up on I-94 in Chesterton this morning, blocking an Ind. 49 off-ramp ,
after breaking loose of its frame, the Indiana State Police said.
police, at 10:15 a.m. trucker Tracy L. Blocher, 41, of Pierceton, Ind., was
exiting northbound Ind. 49 for westbound I-94 when, as he was rounding the
curve, the double-wide half which he was hauling shifted on its frame,
causing the bolts to bend and break and the structure to fall, blocking the
ramp and roadway.
The 76’ x 16’
double-wide half weighs 40,000 pounds. It sustained “several thousand
dollars in damage,” police said.

He was issued a
citation for inadequate securement and inoperative trailer brakes.
Blocher, who was
accompanied by two vehicle escorts, was hauling the 2014 Champion mobile
home to Sioux City, Iowa.
Waffco Towing was
on scene and working to lift the mobile home back onto its frame.
As of deadline, the
ramp from northbound Ind. 49 to westbound I-94 and the two right lanes of
westbound I-94 were closed.
