The Porter County Sheriff’s Police is investigating the burglary of a residence in the 600 block of North Old Ind. 2 in Jackson Township.

According to police, sometime between 8 a.m. Dec. 18 and 2 a.m. today someone pried open the man door to the basement, then removed six pre-1964 silver dollars from the master bedroom and a Yardman snow blower from the garage.

“Three doors to the outside were left open” by the burglar on exiting the residence, “causing the kitchen sink pipes to freeze and break,” police said. Water soaked both the kitchen and living room hardwood floors and drained into the basement. Police estimated damage to the home at $1,600 and loss of valuables at $900.
